WHY IS A TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) IMPORTANT TO HAVE ON YOUR RV?

A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is important for various reasons, and these reasons apply to all types of vehicles, including RVs (Recreational Vehicles). Here are some key reasons why having a TPMS on your RV is important:

1. Safety: Proper tire pressure is crucial for vehicle safety. Under-inflated or over-inflated tires can lead to tire blowouts, which can be especially dangerous for RVs due to their size and weight. A TPMS helps you monitor tire pressure in real-time, reducing the risk of accidents caused by tire-related issues.

2. Fuel  Efficiency: Properly inflated tires contribute to better fuel efficiency. Under-inflated tires can lead to increased rolling resistance, which in turn requires more fuel to maintain a given speed. By ensuring your RV's tires are properly inflated, you can potentially save on fuel costs during your travels.

3. Tire Longevity: Maintaining the correct tire pressure helps extend the lifespan of your RV's tires. Under-inflated tires can cause uneven tire wear, leading to premature tire failure. A TPMS can alert you to any pressure abnormalities, allowing you to address issues before they cause significant damage.

4. Real-Time Monitoring: TPMS provides real-time monitoring of tire pressure, giving you immediate feedback on any changes. This is particularly beneficial during long journeys or when driving through varying terrains, where tire conditions can change rapidly.

5. Temperature Monitoring: Some advanced TPMS systems also monitor tire temperature. Overheating can be an indication of issues such as overloading or excessive friction, both of which can lead to tire failure. Detecting temperature changes early can help prevent serious problems.

6. Convenience: Regularly checking tire pressure manually can be time-consuming and is subject to human error. A TPMS automates this process, providing continuous monitoring without the need for frequent manual checks.

In summary, a TPMS is a valuable safety and maintenance tool for RVs, helping to prevent accidents, improve fuel efficiency, extend tire life, and ensure optimal performance. It provides peace of mind for RV owners, especially during long journeys or when exploring diverse and challenging terrains. We also carry in our truck emergency roadside LED lights.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN RV SURGE PROTECTOR AND AN RV ELECTRICAL MANAGEMENT (EMS) SYSTEM?

1. Surge Protector:

• Surge protectors are designed primarily to protect your RV from voltage spikes and surges in the electrical supply.

• They are simpler and less expensive than EMS units.

• Surge protectors typically provide basic protection against power surges and spikes, helping prevent damage to sensitive electronic equipment and appliances in your RV.

• They may not offer features like load shedding or voltage monitoring.

• Surge protectors often do not have the ability to manage or regulate power supply during low voltage situations.

2. RV Electrical Management System (EMS):

• An RV Electrical Management System is a more comprehensive and advanced solution.

• EMS units provide surge protection along with additional features like voltage monitoring, load shedding, and protection against low and high voltage situations.

• They can automatically disconnect your RV from the power source if the voltage drops to a dangerous level or if there is a significant power surge, thereby protecting your RV's electrical system and appliances.

• EMS units can also help you manage power usage by shedding non-essential loads when the voltage supply is insufficient, which can prevent damage and tripped breakers.

• They may display real-time voltage and amp readings, providing more information about the quality of the electrical supply.

In summary, while both RV surge protectors and RV Electrical Management Systems aim to protect your RV from electrical issues, an EMS offers more comprehensive protection by including surge protection, voltage monitoring, load shedding, and enhanced features to manage and regulate your RV's electrical supply. EMS units are generally considered a more robust solution for those who want to safeguard their RV's electrical system and appliances in a variety of scenarios, including low voltage situations. However, they tend to be more expensive than simple surge protectors. Your choice will depend on your specific needs and budget.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO USE A WATER PRESSURE REGULATOR WHEN CONNECTING TO CITY WATER?

Using a water pressure regulator when hooking up your RV to a city water connection is important for several reasons:

1. Protecting Your RV's Plumbing: RVs have plumbing systems that are designed to handle a certain amount of water pressure. City water supplies can have water pressure that exceeds what your RV's plumbing can safely handle. Without a regulator, this high-pressure water can lead to leaks, burst pipes, and damage to your RV's plumbing system. A regulator helps reduce the incoming water pressure to a safe and manageable level, preventing potential damage.

2. Consistent Water Flow: In addition to protecting your RV's plumbing, a water pressure regulator ensures a more consistent water flow. Fluctuating water pressure can lead to inconsistent water usage, making it difficult to perform tasks like showering or doing the dishes. By regulating the pressure, you can enjoy a more reliable and even flow of water in your RV.

3. Preventing Damage to Appliances: High water pressure can also harm the appliances inside your RV, such as your water heater and faucets. Over time, it can lead to premature wear and tear on these components. By using a regulator, you extend the lifespan of your appliances and avoid costly repairs or replacements.

4. Reducing Water Waste: Excessive water pressure can cause your RV's fixtures to release more water than necessary, leading to water waste. A regulator ensures that you're using water efficiently, which is particularly important if you're staying in a location with water conservation measures or limited access to water.

5. Saving Money: Water pressure regulators are relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to the potential costs of repairing or replacing damaged RV plumbing and appliances. By investing in a regulator, you can save money in the long run by avoiding these costly repairs.

In summary, a water pressure regulator is a crucial accessory when hooking up your RV to a city water connection. It protects your RV's plumbing, ensures a consistent water flow, prevents damage to appliances, reduces water waste, and ultimately helps you save money on potential repairs and replacements. It's a simple but effective tool that contributes to a safer and more comfortable RV experience.

A dedicated potable water hose is essential! You never know what the water quality is at a campground or RV Park!!  Water filtration is essential as well! A 90-degree brass hose elbow will help reduce the stress/strain on hose & RV connection.  To fill your fresh water tank (if you are not hooking to city water), you will need a water tank filler with shutoff valve.  Keep a spray bottle with bleach in it to sanitize the site faucet before hooking up your fresh water potable hose.

EVERYONE'S FAVORITE TOPIC - NOT!!!

But we have to address it, so here are the things you are going to need to manage your black and gray tanks.  ALWAYS wear gloves when hooking, unhooking and handling sewer hoses and connections!  All these items should be stored in their own tote after being thoroughly rinsed out. Use a Sidewinder or similar product to make sure your sewer hose is at a consistent downward slope for better drainage.  A sagging hose is a hose that is NOT draining properly! If you have two drain outlets on your rig, you will need a Y sewer hose fitting so that both hoses can drain into the single sewer connection at your site.  If you have a black tank flush connection to rinse your black tank, you will need a dedicated hose for this.

6. PLUS!! Other Outdoor Products We Use

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR RV LEVEL?

1. Comfort: A level RV provides a more comfortable living space. When your RV is not level, you may feel like you're constantly leaning or sliding to one side, which can be uncomfortable when you're inside. It can also affect your sleep quality.

2. Stability: Leveling your RV helps stabilize it, preventing it from rocking or swaying when you move around inside. This is especially important in larger RVs, as unlevel surfaces can make the RV feel unstable, leading to an unpleasant experience.

3. Appliances and Systems: Many of the appliances and systems in an RV, such as refrigerators, stoves, and toilets, operate more efficiently when the RV is level. Proper leveling ensures that these appliances function correctly and prevents potential damage that can occur when they are used on uneven surfaces.

4. Safety: An unlevel RV can pose safety risks. It's easier to trip or fall when moving around inside, and items can shift and fall, potentially causing injury. Additionally, unlevel conditions can strain the RV's structure and systems over time.

5. Slide Outs: Many RVs have slide-outs, which extend living space when parked. These slide-outs  should not be deployed until the rig is level in order to operate smoothly and prevent damage to the RV's slide-out mechanisms.

6. Waste Disposal: Proper leveling is essential when emptying waste tanks. It ensures that the tanks fully empty and prevent waste from pooling in the tanks.

7. Proper leveling helps shed water and prevent leaks.

It's essential to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for leveling your specific RV model to ensure a safe and comfortable experience while camping.  Some RVs have auto-leveling, which is really convenient! Other's you must level manually.

If you have a tow-behind that you are leveling manually, once level side-to-side, always chock the wheels before unhitching from the tow vehicle, then level

front-to-back.  One of my most favorite gadgets for manual leveling is a Level Mate Pro!!  It takes the place of using a construction level, and makes the job so much easier!!
